Two disciples on the way to Emmaus

 

Luke 24:13-17『And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about three score furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pass, that, while they communicated together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.  But their eyes were held that they should not know him. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?

Jesus appeared to the disciples on their way to Emmaus, but while they were talking to each other, they did not recognize Jesus at all. When Jesus' disciples recognized him after his resurrection, he disappeared at some point. Apostle Paul also personally met the ascended Jesus in Damascus. After Jesus was resurrected, he suddenly appeared to his disciples and then disappeared, making appearances unknown to humans.

Luke 24:18-23『And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and has not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? And he said unto them, What things? And they said to him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.』

Even though the prophets spoke many times in the Old Testament, they do not believe in Jesus' death on the cross and resurrection. If they look at it with their physical eyes, this is what happens even if they are disciples of Jesus.

Luke 24:25-27 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.』

God promised in Genesis 3:15 that He would come in human form, and through the prophets, He prophesied in Micah 5:2 that He would be born in Bethlehem. And Isaiah 7:14 also says that Christ will be born of her virgin body. David was also told in Psalm 22 that Christ would suffer on the cross. The resurrection of Jesus is also mentioned in Psalm 16. Jesus came in the flesh and said of himself, “It was also in the Old Testament.” He said he was with Abraham. Abraham was a person from about 2000 years before the birth of Jesus. In John 8:55-59, it is said that he existed before Abraham was born. And he said he stayed with him too.

In Genesis 14:18, 『And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God.』In Hebrews 7, it says that this Melchizedek is Jesus, and Abraham called Jesus It means we met. Abraham gave a tithe to King Melchizedek. In Genesis 16:7-10, the angel of Jehovah represents Jehovah. This is because, in 『I will multiply your descendants greatly and make them so numerous that they cannot be numbered』, 『I』 means Jehovah.

In Genesis 16:13, “And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also looked here after him that seeth me?” . Chapter 18 of Genesis also shows a scene where Jehovah God is having a conversation with Abraham.

John also said that Jesus existed in the Old Testament. In John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Word became flesh, that is, Jesus Christ. John the Baptist also says the same thing. In John 1:15, 『John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cameth after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.』“ he said that he was before John,”

In Hebrews 11:24-26, it says that Moses met Christ. After Jesus was resurrected, in Luke 24:27, while Jesus was walking along the road and having a conversation with two disciples, “Then, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained in detail what was written about himself in all the Scriptures.” 』He means Jesus Christ. And on the Sea of Galilee, the same thing is said in Chapter 24, Verse 44: 『And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written. “I” is Jesus Christ. Ultimately, the Lord God of the Old Testament era is Jesus Christ.

Before Jesus was born into this world, He was the Creator God in the Kingdom of God. He, the One who cannot die, came in the flesh, even died, was resurrected, ascended to heaven, and sat at the right hand of the throne. Why was such a person born in the flesh and then died? After Apostle Paul met the ascended Jesus, he was unable to see or eat for three days. However, there was a thought in his mind: “Why did Jesus die and resurrect?” He realized that it was because of his own sins. Likewise, those who realize that all humans are guilty of their own sins are united with the death of Jesus.

In Luke 24:45-48, “Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third.” day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.』

Apostle Paul thought he was blameless in the law. However, he participated in killing the Messiah that the people had been waiting for for a long time. He realized that “his sinfulness was related to the death of Jesus.” Why is his sin connected to Jesus' death? This problem is related to sin. If believers do not realize this, they will not know why Jesus died. People think that if they believe that Jesus died for their sins, their sins will be forgiven. So, I believe that fact. And they think they are saved. However, salvation does not happen that way. Salvation comes when we are released from sin.
