You can only remarry if you have Moses' divorce certificate.
You can only remarry if you have Moses' divorce certificate.
In Mark 10:1-5, “And he arose from thence, and came into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again. And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorce, and to put her away. And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.』The Bible says that Moses gave permission to write a certificate of divorce to every hard-hearted person who wanted to divorce.
Basically, all humans are spiritually adulterous and hard-hearted. Chapter 10 verses 11-12 『And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery. 』However, with Moses' divorce certificate, she can remarry, not commit adultery.
What does Moses’ divorce certificate mean spiritually? In Romans 7:2-3, “For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if she, while her husband be her liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.』Here, the divorce certificate means the death of her husband.
In verses 4-5 of chapter 7, “Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.』
There are two meanings to us as people. In Genesis 2:7, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.』Man is a living being called a soul made of spirit and earth. So the spirit combined (married) with the dust and became a person called the soul, but since he was bound under the law, he was a sinner. Spirit means the Son of God, and dust means the daughter of man. Because these two got married, God made them mortal.
Spirit refers to spiritual identity, and dirt refers to physical identity. Because the spirit marries the physical identity, one becomes dead to God. But what happens when they get divorced? In other words, it is said that if the husband, the fleshly self, dies (self-denial, self-crucifixion), we can go to another, to the one who rose from the dead, so that we may bear fruit for God.
The other means the resurrected Christ. Dying in union with Jesus who died on the cross symbolizes the death of the fleshly self. Therefore, the spiritual self is united with the resurrected Christ and participates in the resurrection together, creating a new marriage relationship. Here, the divorce certificate given by Moses is Jesus' death on the cross, which guarantees physical death. The meaning of being united with Jesus' death on the cross is to declare that the fleshly self has also died legally (law). Since he died to the law, he is free to the law. In Romans 7:2, “For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.』
In Galatians 4:29-30, a comparison is made between those under the law and those under the promise. 『But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son : for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.』
One born according to the law refers to the physical self (Ishmael), and one born according to the Holy Spirit refers to the spiritual self (Isaac). The physical self, born of the flesh, persecutes the spiritual self, born of the Holy Spirit. That is why the spiritual self cannot appear in a person's heart, and the physical self reigns supreme. However, it means to chase away the physical self. The way to chase away your physical self is to obtain a divorce certificate. The divorce certificate that Moses gives is the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. To receive this certificate, you are united with Jesus who died on the cross. Taking up his cross is the only way to cast out the fleshly self.
The only way to be free from the law is through death on the cross. To say that one has “received the Holy Spirit” without dying to the law on the cross itself is spiritual adultery. A person who says she has received the Holy Spirit while being bound by the law is said to be an adulteress. Unless you die to the law with Jesus on the cross, you are all bound by the law. Everyone who is under the law is a sinner. Many church people think that they are not under the law, even though they are not dead to the law. So they say they receive the Holy Spirit. However, if they do not receive the Holy Spirit, they are prostitutes. However, when saints enter into Christ, they die to the law through the crucified body of Christ.
In Romans 8:1-5, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit 』
Those who follow the flesh refer to the physical self, and those who follow the spirit refer to the spiritual self. These two are not separate people, but appear in the heart within the same person. So, it means that the spiritual self must fight against the physical self and achieve victory.
Once you receive Moses' divorce certificate (death on the cross), you can officially enter into a new marriage. This is union with the resurrected Christ. A heavenly wedding feast takes place. Those who do not believe in the present resurrection are still fighting.
